E-Collar Training
E-collar Training is a remote collar tool used to communicate with your dog and is a very valuable tool. Some people think of them as "shock collars" leaving a negative association that these collar are not if used properly.
Our remote collar that we use in our programs have operating levels that go up to 127 which helps us find the right level for each dog we work with. Each dog has a different sensitivity level to the collar, where one dog may be 5 while another dog may be 21. You have to remember most people can't feel anything until around level 50 and you want to keep your dogs collar on the lowest levels.
The remote collar is not meant to punish a dog but to gain and retain a dog's attention or redirect their attention away from the source of a distraction and back onto the owner and the job the dog was asked to preform. The collar is gentle and force free method unlike with other training tools or human emotions that could escalate problems. When dealing with aggression issues, the collar is used to get the dog's attention and hold the dog attentive even in the highest distractions that before would have caused the dog to react like barking, lunging, snapping, etc.
We take our time in introducing the collar to the dog so they can fully understand what the stimulation from the collar means in order to create a positive association to wearing it. In doing this you must have lots of patience, good timing, and understanding of the dog's body language.
For dogs who are doing the E-Collar Program:
You dog will learn how to do:
- Place
- Come/Recall
- Down/Sit Stays from a far distance
- Polite Manners
- Heel
- Off Leash
- and more
For dogs who are doing the Behavior Rehabilitation Program:
Your dog will be in a extensive 1-2 week or more stay at my house or the day to day package learning how to be a balanced dog using the E-collar. Working on behavior issues like: fear, aggression, dog on dog aggression, anxiety, timid, and more.
*Note: Time length can vary due to how much time is needed in rehabilitating each dog that comes into our Rehab program.
The next step is to introduce you to the e-collar, teaching you how use the collar and putting you and your dog on the right path to success. Since your dog will have a strong foundation of what the collar means, this will help ease you with getting comfortable with the e-collar so there is no confusion.
